Packing Tips For Your Move
1. Set up a work station.

A kitchen or dining room table works well for this purpose. ALWAYS cover the table with an old blanket before placing any items on the table to prevent any damage to the surface.

2. Purchase/gather packing supplies. Below is a list of items you will need.

Markers - Number boxes and write the room it needs to be delivered – Put a special color/code on the boxes you will want to open first.

Packing tape - not masking or scotch tape as they will not hold

Scissors or a utility knife

Notebook & pencil - Number each page and write contents of each box with that number.

White paper, tissue paper and bubble wrap to pack fragile items
We do not recommend newspaper as the ink can easily transfer to your items.

Shredded paper and/or towels to cushion the bottom of boxes of fragile items.

Boxes that close, boxes with lids and/or plastic totes. You will need more than you think and having enough boxes will make your life easier!

Original boxes with packing material that you have saved

Shopping bags - Put your shoes and miscellaneous closet items in the shopping bags. When our movers arrive with the wardrobe boxes, you can put the shopping bag in the bottom of the box and hang the clothing on the bar in the box.

3. Personal boxes are also a good idea. Use brightly colored storage totes or boxes, one for each person. Let each family member fill theirs with items they will want right away in their new home. Examples of what to include are: a set of sheets, a towel, a night light, a change of clothes, personal grooming items, etc.

4. Pack of box of essentials and label it “Open Me First”. These items can include a hammer, screwdrivers, utility knife, nails, bathroom essentials - hand towel, soap, toilet paper, shower curtain and hooks, kitchen essentials - paper towels, coffeemaker and filters, coffee, paper plates, plastic cups, plastic utensils, dish detergent, sponge, pet food & dishes, trash bags, snacks and additional items such as a flashlight, first aid kit including pain relievers, pencil and paper etc.
